1    Telefone

A atitude mais simples para evitar ser colocado em um quarto que ninguém mais quer é reservar diretamente com o hotel. Você até pode fazer isso por meio de um site, mas ligar e falar com uma pessoa é, provavelmente, a melhor ideia, especialmente em hotéis menores. 

“Dá a oportunidade de conversar com alguém que realmente trabalha no hotel e personalizar sua estadia, seja com ajuda para as reservas em um restaurante local, organizar o transporte ou ter ideias de programas divertidos”, diz Andrew Carter, gerente geral da 21c Lexington, um hotel em Kentucky, nos Estados Unidos.

Wulan Sastra, do Bisma Eight Hotel, em Bali (Indonésia), também sugere que a reserva seja feita cerca de quatro a oito semanas antes da viagem, quando o hotel geralmente tem mais opções de quartos.

2   Suas Prioridades

Os recepcionistas do JW Marriott Indianapolis sugerem que o hóspede tenha em mente o que considera mais importante: pode ser a vista, estar perto ou longe de elevadores ou escolher o número de camas. No entanto, lembre-se que existem quartos que se encaixam em algumas das preferências, mas não em todas. Então, saiba o momento de abrir mão de alguma exigência e fale no hotel quais são suas prioridades. 

Também não é bom fazer muito segredo sobre o motivo da viagem no momento de preencher sua ficha na recepção. “Se soubermos que você está comemorando uma ocasião especial, um aperitivo de cortesia ou uma taça de champanhe podem aparecer”, diz Joel Holland, gerente geral do Kenwood Inn and Spa, em Sonoma (Califórnia).

3   Programas de fidelidade

Outra maneira fácil de melhorar suas chances de fugir de um quarto ruim é participar dos programas de fidelidade dos hotéis. Muitos deles oferecem regalias, como taxas mais baixas e a oportunidade de ganhar pontos para uma futura estadia.

4   Melhor horário

Programe seu check-in para o período entre 16h45 e 18h. Entrar muito cedo faz com que você consiga apenas o primeiro quarto disponível, sendo que um grande número de acomodações melhores ainda não estão vagas ou limpas. Por isso, a chance de um upgrade gratuito é zero. 

O contrário também não é bom. Se você chegar tarde demais, terá o último quarto disponível. Lembre-se que existe a hora do rush na recepção, que é entre as 8h e 9h30 e das 18h às 20h.

5 Check-in esperto

Muitos funcionários de hotéis concordam que uma boa prática é ligar no estabelecimento na manhã da entrada para fazer seus pedidos ou lembrá-los de suas preferências. 

“Os quartos estão bloqueados no período da manhã, mas, no momento em que você chega, geralmente, é tarde demais para solicitar uma acomodação melhor”, diz Tom Waithe, diretor regional de Operações da Kimpton Hotels no Pacífico Noroeste, Colorado e Utah, nos Estados Unidos.

6  Seja gentil

Mesmo que já esteja no momento do check-in, não custa perguntar se existem possíveis upgrades ou alguma suíte melhor disponível. É muito frequente que a presidencial esteja vaga, por exemplo. Quando o recepcionista perguntar como você está, educadamente responda: “Estou bem, mas estaria melhor se estivesse na suíte presidencial.” A piada, em alguns casos, fará você conseguir uma atualização. 

Elizabeth Avery, do SoloTrekker4U.com, diz que utilizar o idioma local, caso esteja no exterior, pode ser bem interessante. “Fiz isso no Oriente Médio e me colocaram em uma suíte bem espaçosa”, conta.
